Diesel Generator Set Installation for Fundamental Requirements
Installation Requirements
A. Equipment Placement & Accessibility
Install equipment and accessories in designated locations to ensure easy maintenance access.
B. Structural Support Components
Provide supporting steel beams, hangers, brackets, anchor bolts, and vibration isolators as per manufacturer specifications or approved drawings.
C. Compliance with Manufacturer Guidelines
Follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions to ensure proper operation of all systems.
D. Documentation Submission
Submit detailed coordination documents (e.g., layout plans, schematics, and installation diagrams) to the general contractor.
1. Pipeline Testing
A. Underground Fuel Pipes
Backfilling is permitted only after architect inspection and pressure testing approval.
B. Pressure Testing
Conduct a 24-hour, 2-bar air pressure test for all fuel pipes and tank connections under the architect’s supervision.
C. Post-Installation Fueling
Fill fuel tanks completely after testing to prepare for system commissioning and initial operation.
2. Foundation Requirements
Legacy Cummins Generators:
Require a concrete foundation leveled with a spirit level.
Use vibration-damping pads or anchor bolts between the base and foundation.
Modern Generators:
No concrete foundation needed due to integrated flat-base design and built-in vibration isolators.
3. Electrical Safety & Grounding
Grounding:
Generator (housing) must have a reliable protective earth connection.
For neutral-point grounding, engage qualified personnel to install and include lightning protection.
Prohibited: Using the mains power’s grounding system for neutral-point grounding.
Transfer Switch:
Ensure the ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) is fail-safe to prevent backfeed.
Certification by the local power authority is mandatory.
4. Exhaust System Installation (Indoor Use)
Route exhaust pipes outdoors with:
Diameter ≥ muffler outlet.
≤3 elbow bends to minimize backpressure.
5–10° downward slope to prevent rainwater ingress.
Weatherproof covers for vertical exhaust pipes.
5. Site Environment & Safety
Maintain a clean, corrosion-free surroundings:
Avoid storing acidic/alkaline chemicals nearby.
Install fire suppression systems where feasible.
